All thinking
Perspective 3 minute read
Executive reporting should reduce uncertainty, not display activity.
A dashboard can contain accurate numbers and still fail its audience. The real test is whether a leader understands what happened, why it matters, and what should change next.
Start with the decision
Before choosing metrics, ask what the stakeholder needs to decide. Continue, reallocate, fix, test, or stop are clearer reporting goals than simply showing performance.
Translate without flattening
Executives do not need every platform detail, but they do need an honest explanation of tradeoffs, confidence levels, and constraints. Clear is not the same as simplistic.
Give the next conversation a shape
A strong report closes with priorities, owners, and the next question to answer. That is how measurement becomes a management tool rather than a monthly ritual.
